If you are really determined, you can buy mosquito coils in shops here for the evenings. I would also take 100% deet with you. It's the only thing that works, because the bugs here are persistant. I have not heard of anyone frowing on repellants here (Sarawak and the Kelabit Highlands). Maybe a Penninsular Malaysia thing?
